  1. Well, if he can trace himself back to King Ferdinand, the answer to that is yes. Of course that seemed to be true of a good many important non-Jews in the Spain of the Inquisition including Tomas Torquemada himself. Despite the obsession with blood purity, it was more appearances than reality. Didn't notably save anyone caught by the Inquisition or banished from Spain and Portugal.

  3. Please refer to them as Anusim. Marranos is the pejorative term that Spaniards of that time called them. It means "pigs" in Spanish.

  4. whatever it meant in Spain, in modern speech and text they were always called marranos and it was not said as a pejorative. I always thought "Anusim" was just the Hebrew word, whereas those not from Israel always said Marranos

  5. What's wrong with all of your? They all wear kippot just out of respect. This is the proper protocol. Whenever a dignitary comes to Israel to a 'religious' site or occasion, they don a yarmulke! Has nothing to do whatsoever with their own religions - it is out of respect, that's all!
